Brendon McGovern – Associate Project Manager, Cogmedix

In my time with Cogmedix I have learned a few things that are core to the family values that drive the Coghlin Companies. One of those values is giving back to the community we live and work in. On September 17, 2015 I was able to join my fellow volunteers from Columbia Tech and Cogmedix as we participated in the United Way of Central Massachusetts‘ Day of Caring.

United Way - Day of Caring 2015The project I worked on was only one of 75 different community projects that were undertaken by over one thousand volunteers across Central Massachusetts on a beautiful Thursday in September. We were able to help The Greater Worcester Housing Connection, one of the few homeless shelters operating and providing assistance for Central Massachusetts. This great organization works to end homelessness in our community by providing permanent housing solutions as well as additional services with the goal of developing self-sufficiency for our community’s most vulnerable. The focus of our project was at the Triage and Assessment Center located at 25 Queen Street in Worcester which provides housing for those in immediate need. Due to the nature of the facility it requires constant maintenance and we helped paint the kitchen, recreation room, multiple hallways and a stairwell. Our dedicated crew was actually so effective that we ran out of paint by the time the day was done!

It felt amazing to give back to the Worcester/Central Mass community and see the impact that each of us can have in a single day! It was truly humbling to see the appreciation espoused by the residents and staff at the Worcester Housing Connection. I cannot wait to volunteer in this amazing campaign again next year with my fellow Caring Associates!
